I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your Lordship's confidential despatch dated 10th June on the subject of the rate of exchange which should be taken

in calculating the amount payable for military contribution.

I agree with the view of the Army Council

that the matter is of no immediate practical importance and that the existing method of conversion may be continued until the amount of the contribution approaches reasonably close to the cost of the garrison.
